Pastor William McCullough
Founder & Senior Advisor
Pastor William McCullough is an influential leader who has served with excellence and integrity throughout his 20 years of ministry. He founded FaithActs in 2014 because God gave him a vision of better education for children in his city and throughout our state. He serves as senior advisor to our executive director, and leads our clergy organizers through community organizing and civic engagement work.
Pastor McCullough is the Senior Pastor of Russell Temple CME Church in Bridgeport, Connecticut with more than 250 members and 10 outreach ministries. He is also the Chair of the Bridge-Building Committee of the Council of Churches of Greater Bridgeport, and the Scholarship Chair of the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance of Greater Bridgeport and Vicinity, an alliance of 86 black Christian pastors. The founder of U-Turn Ministries and Safe Street Kids, Pastor McCullough has touched the lives of thousands in Pennsylvania and Connecticut through relief efforts, community service initiatives, and humanitarian projects. His vision is to proactively bridge the gap between churches and schools, creating a safe community environment that promises, promotes, and provides educational enhancement for our children.
Jamilah Prince-Stewart
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
As executive director of FaithActs for Education, Jamilah Prince-Stewart has changed the conversation about public education in Connecticut. Under Jamilah’s leadership, FaithActs works with congregations across the state to build power and secure critical wins for our children.
The leader of Connecticut’s Black-led, faith-based, education advocacy community organizing non-profit, Jamilah ensures we fulfill our mission of improving education opportunities for Black, Brown and low-income students so that they can graduate from college, take care of their family, and fulfill their God-given potential.
FaithActs’ success is rooted in Jamilah’s background in community organizing and ability to affect large-scale change at the state level.
Jamilah is a native of New Haven, Connecticut, a graduate of Yale University, and a life-long champion for children and education. She is also a member of Education Leaders of Color. Prior to beginning her role at FaithActs in 2014, she worked to empower and reflect community leaders, parents, and people of color in Connecticut’s education reform movement as the Director of Community Engagement at ConnCAN, a statewide advocacy organization. During her time at ConnCAN, Jamilah began a robust Clergy organizing initiative that garnered major wins for Connecticut’s education reform movement and an important bond with Pastor William McCullough that would lead to the creation of FaithActs for Education. Prior to ConnCAN, Jamilah worked at Hartford Youth Scholars Foundation as the Placement Manager, where she placed inner-city middle school students into independent secondary schools around the country. Jamilah lives in New Haven with her husband and daughter.
