What is your education story?

My formal education came from being born and raised in Seymour, where I attended local public schools through high school. My education continued at Southern Connecticut State University, where I earned a bachelor’s degree. I am fortunate to continue learning each day through public service.

If kids aren’t reading on grade level by third grade, research is clear that they’re less likely to graduate.
75% of third-graders in Bridgeport aren’t reading on grade level. What will you do to change this if elected?

Reading is a cornerstone to not only getting an education, but to life itself. We must ensure that the Education Cost Sharing (ECS) formula is fully funded by the state. In order to do that, we must get our economy and state back on track to generate the necessary revenues to fund our schools. Every time someone moves out of Connecticut, we lose tax revenues that could be used to help better fund education.

Should Bridgeport receive increased education funding from the state? Why or why not?

Bridgeport should receive the necessary funding to properly educate its school-aged population. The current system is failing Bridgeport and many other municipalities in our state. As stated earlier, the weak economy and fleeing taxpayers here in Connecticut present a clear and present impediment to Bridgeport receiving the necessary funding from the state government to provide a sound education for its families.

Why do you believe Bridgeport residents should vote for you?

Bridgeport residents have been ignored and their current representatives in our Constitutional offices in Hartford have failed them. Years of pandering for votes in the inner cities have failed to produce real results and help lift our most-needy residents out of poverty. As Comptroller, I will work to fix out state’s finances and
to create an economy that actually works for all of our residents.

What is your education story?

The ‘story’ is that I was a ‘victim’ of the Norwalk Public School system Class of ‘82. The system was in shambles then and has steadily deteriorated. The notion that throwing more money at a failing system with the hope that it will miraculously fix itself should be seen as delusional. Trusting the same administrators who’ve ideas have failed for decades is a form of institutionalized insanity. I intend to tear it down.

If kids aren't reading on grade level by third grade, research is clear that they're less likely to graduate. 75% of third-graders in Bridgeport aren’t reading on grade level. What will you do to change this if elected?

I would defund failing schools, and terminate all staff and revoke their teaching licenses in the State. I would also charge the parents with bringing the children up to the 1950’s era ‘grade level’ before the children are allowed to re enroll in the public schools. A ‘Public Education’ is a privilege that is squandered by far too many parents. The treat the schools as a daycare entitlement. This is unacceptable.

Should Bridgeport receive increased education funding from the state? Why or why not?

No, absolutely not! Every town in the state needs to pull its own weight. Bridgeport’s government as well as its Board of Education have utterly failed at this critical task. Bestowing more money onto agencies which have failed for decades will not correct the problems. Rewarding a pattern of failure is as unfair to the rest of the people of Connecticut as the current administration has been to its own citizens, but with less accountability.

Why do you believe Bridgeport residents should vote for you?

Simple. Because the voters of Bridgeport have been sold a dismal bill of goods by the Democrat Party for the past 40+ years. The once proud city tops the list of all the wrong statistics, crime, drugs, graduation percentages, taxes, poor planning, illegal aliens, etc. I will not be the one selling policies, I will be instrumental in routing out corruption. And Bridgeport did not achieve all its ‘tops’ without lots of corruption.
